A Program to Help Parents Get Babies Ready For School
Parents are a child's first and best teacher. They help the child develop a desire for learning and teach the basics of learning, such as the letters, numbers and reading.
Your child's learning process begins with you reading out loud to your child. Reading to your child is a great teaching tool and it strengthens the child-parent bond.
LAMPLIGHTERS is available to help you get your child ahead of the curve before entering kindergarten.
On the LAMPLIGHTER book shelf at the Lewiston Public Library there are books that provide information on the how and whys of reading to children and how to develop your youngster into a learner.
Love of learning begins on a parent's lap.
Think about a five year old who is excited about going to school but is not prepared. Maybe the child doesn't know letters or numbers or is not ready for pre-reading. Books and pencils may not be familiar things. Maybe the child doesn't have siblings and will have to adjust to being in a classroom of 15 to 25 other children. Failure to adjust to the school experience may mean academic troubles ahead. Going to school is a big step and is often a hard one especially if the child is not prepared for the experience.
LAMPLIGHTERS' Cradle to Kindergarten Program helps parents prepare their child for the new things that will be happen at school. This preparation will prevent a child from feeling vulnerable in a teacher-directed learning environment of rules, other kids and books. The program is designed for birth to five years, but useful through grade 4.
Did LAMPLIGHTERS invent this program? Absolutely not! We 'lifted' it from the School Board Journal award winning programs that have succeeded in many states. The Cradle to Kindergarten Program was designed to be successful for families with babies, toddlers and/or preschoolers.
Is this a school run program or preschool program? No. Parents are a child's first and most powerful teachers. There are many leaning skills that only a parent can teach their child like eagerness to learn, discipline of learning and bearing the burdens created by hard work. If you had a successful school experience, you know how important motivation is for learning, especially early learning. Lamplighters will help you keep your child motivated to learn.
What does the Cradle to Kindergarten program actually do for a child beginning school? Basically, it teaches parents how to make books and pencils familiar things in a child's life, how to enjoy using them, how to get the new student physically and mentally prepared for the educational process. Preparing your children will help them succeed in school and life.
Refer to the LAMPLIGHTERS Bookshelf for a list of books that will help you teach your child the basic skills of learning.
