Lamplighter Book Review:
TITLE: Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever
Reviewed By: Ronald J. Smith

AUTHOR: Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever

Mem Fox is an internationally respected literacy expert and author of many children's picture books. Fox's book, Reading Magic, gives you the information and motivation through research and real life stories of the importance of reading aloud to children. The chapters are short and packed with great information even the person who is reluctant to read aloud to a young child will find interesting and reassuring. She states the best time to begin reading to a young child is the day they are born.

Children who come from book rich homes are much more successful in their school careers. Libraries are great resources to get books to read aloud to children. The Librarian at your local library can give suggestions for books to read aloud to children. Fox stresses that there is no ONE WAY to read aloud to children rather everyone has their own style but the main thing is to read with expression and enthusiasm.

The author states," We can prove a great deal of information by the act of reading itself. The more we read aloud to our kids and the more they read by themselves, the more experiences they'll have of the world through the things they encounter in books. And the more experiences they have of the world, the easier it will be to read".

This book is a must for every parent with its true read aloud successes, activities, and easy to understand advice.
